VERTICAL CONSTRUCTION

We've Been Building the Foundation.
Now We're Building on It.

CG Jones built its name below the slab. Mass excavation, utilities, and the structural concrete under commercial and institutional projects across the region, including the Florence Cancer Center and the UNA Computing and Mathematics Building. Moving up from there was deliberate, and we did it the way we do most things: we hired the experience first.

Jonathan Knight leads building construction at CG Jones and is the qualifying party on our State of Alabama Building Construction license. He spent more than 25 years in vertical work before joining us, most of it as a Senior Superintendent running large commercial and institutional projects across North Alabama. K-12 and high school campuses. A 400-bed university residence hall. Class A office core and shell. A five-level parking deck. Cast-in-place concrete, tilt wall, precast, structural steel on metal deck, masonry. He also spent five years owning and running a concrete contracting business, self-performing foundations, walls, and elevated slabs. An Auburn University graduate, Jonathan started as an assistant field engineer and worked his way up through every field role on the way to superintendent. He has personally supervised more than $175 million in building construction. That experience, combined with what CG Jones already self-performs, means an owner can hand us the site and the structure under one contract. Same contractor, same schedule, same accountability. No handoff between the site package and the building package, which is where most commercial projects lose their first three weeks. We handle feasibility, design-build coordination, estimating, budgeting, and field execution. We are engineering-led, with a licensed Professional Engineer and Professional Land Surveyor at the head of the company, and we self-perform the concrete and earthwork rather than bidding it out. For a building project in Alabama,  Mississippi, or  Tennessee, that's a shorter chain of command than you'll get almost anywhere else.

"I have had the privilege of knowing Jonathan Knight for over ten years, and I am always pleased when he is assigned to a project, given his extensive experience, strong work ethic, and proven ability to motivate personnel.  I had the pleasure of working alongside Jonathan during his tenure as Senior Superintendent on the 6200 Redstone Gateway project. In that role, he was responsible for managing day-to-day field operations, including the coordination and direction of tilt-up concrete construction, subcontractor scheduling, and site supervision. Jonathan demonstrated a strong command of cost control and consistently worked to keep the project within budget. His organizational skill and hands-on attention to detail are qualities I would gladly rely on again, and he is among the most capable professionals I have worked with in delivering projects of the highest quality. I recommend Jonathan without reservation for tilt-up and industrial construction projects. He is a valuable asset who will contribute significantly to the success of any project he undertakes."
