OUR STORY
Building Success Through Partnership
CG Jones is the product of a partnership that started long before the company did.
Trey Alexander earned his civil engineering degree from Auburn Universtiy in 1998 and went to work for Colbert County as Assistant County Engineer, learning the public side of infrastructure from the inside. He moved on to a local construction company, where he spent time on the contractor's side of the table and picked up the field perspective that most engineers never get. Then he opened his own engineering and surveying firm in Muscle Shoals. Brad Williams graduated from the University of Alabama in 1996 and started with a local engineering firm before founding Williams Engineering, also in Muscle Shoals. Both practices did well on their own. But the more Trey and Brad worked the same projects, the clearer it got that they could accomplish more together than apart. In 2013 they merged and formed Civil Group, LLC, built on a simple idea: practical, common sense solutions backed by people who had actually done the work. Over the next six years Civil Group earned the trust of municipalities, developers, and industry across the region. And as that reputation grew, so did the feedback. Clients kept saying the same thing. The Shoals needed better options for site and civil construction. Somebody who understood the design side and could execute it in the field, without the handoff where things get lost. Trey and Brad listened. Instead of waiting for that contractor to come along, they decided to build it themselves. In 2019 they formed CG Jones, LLC to close the gap between design and execution. Engineers reading the plans, our own crews building the work, and one point of accountability from mobilization through final walk-through. That's the whole idea, and it hasn't changed. What has changed is what we can take on. CG Jones has grown by adding people who bring capability with them, in vertical construction, in bridge and structures, and now into Tennessee. Trey leads that growth the same way he has led everything else: carefully, with an eye toward the kind of work we can do well and the kind of people we want doing it.

Growth, Leadership and a Bright Future
CG Jones has continued to evolve to better serve the industry. In early 2024, Jonathan Knight joined as Chief Operating Officer of CG Jones, bringing over 25 years of construction experience. His leadership and expertise will play a key role in the company’s future growth and success. Later that year, in October 2024, Civil Group was acquired by Morrell Engineering. This transition allowed CG Jones to sharpen its focus on construction and project execution, ensuring that clients receive best-in-class service from start to finish.

✓ Built by people who know what the plans actually mean
✓ Self-performing crews on the work that matters
✓ One point of accountability, start to finish
Our president is a licensed Professional Engineer and Land Surveyor who spent years on the design side before he ever ran a construction company. That background sits in every set of drawings we review. We spot the constructability problems before the crews hit them, and we do our best to tell you about it early instead of on a change order.
We work across Northwest Alabama, Northeast Mississippi, and Middle Tennessee, licensed as a general contractor in all three.
